Desiring God Regional Conference (Fri-Sat)

It’s here, folks! The Desiring God Regional Conference begins this Friday. Pastor John Piper is visiting from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to teach on the topic of his modern classic Desiring God, which is about the “only thing that ultimately matters: glorifying God the way he has appointed.”

The conference is being hosted by our friends at Saddleback Church (Lake Forest, CA). It begins Friday evening. You won’t want to miss it.

UPDATE: Online registration is now closed; however, walk-in registrations are welcome!

Who is John Piper?

John Piper is a saved sinner currently serving Jesus as a husband, a father, and the Pastor for Preaching and Vision at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He holds degrees from Wheaton College, Fuller Seminary (B.D.), and the University of Munich (D.Theol.). He taught Biblical Studies at Bethel College (St. Paul, MN) before accepting the call to serve as pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Dr. Piper has written, among other books, Desiring God, Don’t Waste Your Life, God Is the Gospel, 50 Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die, Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ, This Momentary Marriage, and more recently Think: The Life of the Mind and the Love of God.

Personal Testimony

I received my first copy of Desiring God: Meditations of a Christian Hedonist while working at Saddleback Church, about ten years ago. I had only been a Christian for a few months, and God gave me a burning desire to read his Word. I read my Bible from cover-to-cover for the first time and found myself wrestling with some magnificent truths about God and the gospel that I could neither wrap my mind around nor articulate clearly. In an effort to help me, my supervisor Bryan (or B.D. as we called him at the time),  bought me my first copy of Desiring God with a written note on the inside cover: “Chris – This book has helped shape me more than any other, except the Bible. Read the whole thing. Don’t cheat. -B.D.”

So read it, I did. And what God did for B.D., he also did for me.

God used Desiring God to open my eyes to wondrous truths about himself and drive me to his Word. It was a blessing. God stirred some gospel-driven worship in me that still carries on to this day. Piper is most quoted for an eye-opening line in this book :

God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.

Desiring God is about the doctrine and practice of living for God—for his glory. I mean, what else is there to live for, right?

This two-day mini-conference will be a gift to God’s people here in Orange County. I’m excited for it. I hope you’ll make it!

The Gospel for OC staff will be in the exhibitors area (back of the Worship Center). Be sure to stop by and say hi!

Do you know how many walk-ins you will take? I am looking to bring around people but need to make sure it doesn’t sell out.
